Deep Space Two is the Sarasota, Florida chapter of STARFLEET, the International Star Trek Fan Association, Inc., a 501(c)7 non-profit corporation registered in the State of North Carolina.
STARFLEET is an organization of Star Trek and science fiction enthusiasts (almost 4000!) that have united the world of fandom in their appreciation of Star Trek, the greatest Human adventure. This unique organization has over 200 chapters worldwide linking members from one corner of the Earth to the other into one huge fan run organization. It’s not just a fan club…
Members recieve a Membership ID card, Membership Certificate, a copy if the Vessel Registry, detailing all the chapters of STARFLEET (we hope you choose Deep Space Two!), and a subscription to the STARFLEET Communiqué, our bimonthly newsletter.
Each year, STARFLEET offers a number of academic Scholarships to deserving members pursuing their education in a variety of subjects and disciplines: medicine, engineering, theater arts, international studies, business and management, veterinary medicine, teaching, law enforcement, and journalism/writing. STARFLEET awards up to $500 per scholarship per year, but the program is open only to any active STARFLEET member who is currently enrolled in a fee-requiring school. STARFLEET also offer valuable discounts on goods and services, including Enterprise Rent-A-Car™ (yes, seriously!) Motel 6™ and Choice Hotels™.

In addition to having access to any of our hundreds of local chapters, each club member is invited to participate in a variety of special organizations within the larger STARFLEET entity. Participation is purely voluntary, and no member of STARFLEET is required to do anything beyond simply paying their annual membership dues. However, for those members wishing to get involved beyond simply receiving their membership packet and bi-monthly newsletter, STARFLEET offers the following fun and engaging resources:

We are people of all ages and from all walks of life, who enjoy Science Fiction in all its forms, from major motion pictures, to television series, to numerous books and magazines. Our Prime Directive is to make new friends, share our interest in Star Trek in an open environment, to serve our community, and most of all: to have fun. Each club member brings his or her special abilities to the group. We recognize this value by assigning fictional ranks and positions within the Fleet, reflecting the interests of the members. In addition, participation allows the individual to advance in fictional rank. For example, in STARFLEET, each chapter is a starship or space station in the Fleet. The various officers of the club correspond to fictional positions on the station. For example, the chapter president is the "Commanding Officer."
Why not? Its debut on television over 40 years ago was the first successful mass visualization of the future. Its enduring strength arose from the fact that it was the first science fiction show to emphasize plot and character and to present a universe where people of all races worked together to solve common problems.
There is an online application to join STARFLEET. Membership is $15/yr for an individual membership. Family memberships start at $22/yr for two family members, and up to $34/yr for a family of six. For the Luddites, or those that prefer not to use their credit card online, you may download an application, print it, and mail in a check or money order. For more information, you may visit this page for details about membership.

In our fictional universe, Deep Space Two is a small station, Jupiter Class. This design was best known in Star Trek: Voyager as the station where the Emergency Medical Hologram (EMH) was created by Dr. Zimmerman. The station has very light armaments and shields. It is in orbit of a gas giant in a system with a black hole. Gravimetric distortions in the system make conditions perfect for the development of monopoles. These particles are used in the production of Quantum Singularity Drives. The station utilizes a particle fountain to harvest monopoles from the atmosphere of the gas giant. Pretty boring stuff.

That's us. We're boring. But get stuff done for the Fleet. Certainly not very glamorous. Just useful. We have chosen the name Deep Space Two in honor of one of our favorite series, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Since we are in Region Two of STARFLEET, it just made sense. Deep Space Two is affiliated with the USS Tiberius out of St. Petersburg, our primary support chapter during our shakedown mission. Deep Space Two is a proud member of the Mighty Second Fleet. Deep Space Two is also a founding chapter of Suncoast Squadron. We are also home of the Headquarters for the Second Brigade, STARFLEET Marine Corps.

Deep Space Two is very active on the Internet. Feel free to join our mailing list. You can also follow us on Twitter or check out our Facebook page!

The Chapter held their January meeting at the home of the Commanding Officer. No one showed up.
The Chapter held their December meeting at the home of the Commanding Officer. Turn out was very weak. No business was condiucted, so we ate cake. See? You missed out, you did not get any cake. Thanks to both of you for attending, by the way.
